It seems quite futuristic but it’s a concept that might not be as far away as you think.
A French design company has released a video of their design for a windowless plane which instead would have a cabin that is lined with thin curved screens. Cameras on the outside of the aircraft would capture images that would be projected on to the screens giving the illusion that the entire cabin wall is one large glass window.
The company behind the design, Technicon, say that removing windows will reduce the weight of the plane thereby reducing fuel and maintenance costs. It will also allow designers to create never seen before interiors limited only to what can be displayed on the screens.
Even though still at a concept stage, there are plans to have a windowless plane in production within the next 3 years. Watch this space!
