What are the chances of being involved in a plane crash?
Well it obviously depends on how much you fly and where you fly, but on average your chances of being in a plane crash are 1 in 3.4 million. If you fly with one of the top 100 airlines in the world the chances of you being in a crash are 1 in 7.5 million and even if that were to occur, odds are you would survive.
But overall, on average, your chances of actually dying in a plane crash are 1 in 11 million.
To put that into perspective – you are 1,500 times more likely of dying in a car crash, 80 times more likely to be killed on a bicycle and 11 times more likely to be killed while running.
Of course statistics are just that, statistics – and if you have a genuine fear of flying then these numbers probably won’t do much for you. But they might help a little. (Either that or give you a new found fear of driving, cycling and running).
